December 16, 2010: Immediate Action Needed!

Message from Faye Tucker: PICKET THE GOVERNOR’S MANSION
Friday, December 17th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
North and West side of Governor’s Mansion

DOC employees are being asked by OPEA to picket the Governor’s mansion on Friday. This is a furlough day for you, so please plan on attending this event. We need to be sure the message of growing safety concerns due to furloughs and underfunding is heard. The time for action is now – be sure your voice is counted.

OPEA has asked the Legislature and Governor to stop the furloughs by notifying Director Jones before Session begins that they will take immediate steps to provide funding for the Department. We are encouraging employees to make signs for the picket and the message deals with safety, furloughs and supplemental appropriations.

Soon if the Legislature and Governor do not take action, the number of furlough days will increase. Please help bring attention to this travesty and show up strong. You cannot continue to take furlough days while staffing levels hover dangerously low and inmate capacity is at 99%. You cannot afford to balance the budget on your back and it is unfair that you are being forced to do just that.

Parking is available on the east side of the Capitol. Please forward to co-workers. For additional information, please contact OPEA at 405.524.6764 or 800.880.6732.
