The National Association of Blacks in Criminal JusticeI

NABCJ is the Criminal Justice Solutions organization. It has provided leaders dedicated to improving the administration of criminal justice since its founding in 1974. NABCJ's goal is to achieve equal justice for blacks and other minorities. Members consist of criminal justice professionals in law enforcement, institutional and community corrections, courts, social services, academia, religious and other community-based interests as well as criminal justice students and community leaders. National Institute of Corrections

The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is an agency of the United States government. It is part of the US Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. NIC promotes support programs to assist federal, state and local corrections agencies. Additionally, the NIC provides funds to support programs that are in line with its key initiatives.

NIJ provides objective and independent knowledge and tools to reduce crime and promote justice, particularly at the state and local levels.

The Sentencing Project

Changes in sentencing law and policy, not increases in crime rates, explain most of the six-fold increase in the national prison population. These changes have significantly impacted racial disparities in sentencing, as well as increased the use of “one size fits all" mandatory minimum sentences that allow little consideration for individual characteristics.
